FAQ

Why organic?

We want to provide the highest quality products because we believe you get out what you put in. Leaves are extremely absorbent, so any chemicals or pesticides sprayed on them could leak straight into your tea to be consumed. Being organic is non-negotiable.

Organic standards: “The land has to be pesticides, herbicides, and chemicals-free for three years prior to certification. Organic products cannot contain any engineered nano-particles or GMOs.”

Why no natural flavors?

We don't need any flavoring because our ingredients are top quality and provide plenty of flavor without any additives.

Usually, natural flavors are used to enhance flavor that is lacking due to lesser quality ingredients. This can eventually alter people’s taste preferences to need over-the-top flavor/sweetness to taste “good.”

Natural flavors are not as healthy as they may sound. Government regulations define natural flavors as those that derive their aroma or flavor chemicals from plant or animal sources, including fruit, meat, fish, spices, herbs, roots, leaves, buds, or bark that are distilled, fermented, or otherwise manipulated in a lab.

Where do you source your herbs?

We purchase all of our herbs from a few primary wholesalers. These companies are the premier herbal wholesalers in the United States, and they have been for decades. Our herbs are sourced from various foreign countries where the organic tea and herb infrastructure exists at scale. All of our wholesalers are Fair Trade certified, and many take measures beyond this certification to ensure fair treatment for workers across the supply chain.

Each of our wholesalers visits the suppliers regularly to inspect the farms, and additionally, they test the herbs in the United States using their quality control labs and third-party lab testing companies. The lab testing ensures there are no synthetic chemicals in the leaves.

What sort of packaging do you use?

Our Mindful Moon packaging is manufactured by an American company that has the highest Safe Quality Food rating possible. Our packaging is also highly sustainable, as we use post-consumer-recycled material.

How to make tea?

All you need to steep tea is a cup, hot water, and something to strain the herbs when finished. There are many variations of this. French press, tea bags, mesh infuser, etc. Click here for our favorite, convenient ways to make tea, and click here for our favorite accessories.

Can I steep my tea for longer?

We recommend steeping our herbal blends for 7 - 10 minutes in near-boiling water (195° - 200°F) and our green teas for 2 - 3 minutes in very warm water (170° - 180°F). You can steep the herbal blends for longer, just understand the flavor will be much stronger and the effects more pronounced. DO NOT steep green tea longer than 2 - 3 minutes, as this will cause the tea to taste bitter due to the release of tannin.

Are these tea blends more expensive?

Mindful Moon’s tea blends are slightly more expensive than mass-produced tea bags because our blends contain the highest quality organic ingredients we could find. All our blends are packaged by hand and checked vigorously for quality. Still, the average serving cost is roughly thirty-five cents to eighty cents depending on the blend, which is well below the price of any pre-packaged tea beverage or pre-made tea from a store/restaurant.
